Role Overview

Apply your tax-law expertise to improve next-generation AI systems by translating sales and use tax statutes into precise, testable requirements. This remote contract role focuses on detailed statutory analysis across multiple state jurisdictions, with occasional federal tax provisions. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret U.S. sales and use tax statutes and regulations, including individual subsections.
• Create independent scoring rubrics that break legal text into discrete requirements an AI translation must meet.
• Assign appropriate severity levels, critical, secondary, or minor, based on the actual statutory importance of each requirement.
• Review formal AI translations of statutes and evaluate them on a pass/fail basis against established rubrics.
• Verify accurate treatment of conditions, thresholds, AND/OR logic, exceptions, and defined terms.
• Write clear, self-contained test scenarios for failed criteria, including edge cases, explicit facts, dates, amounts, and expected outcomes.
• Identify and flag discrepancies, statutory exceptions, and genuine legal ambiguities.
• Submit structured written evaluations through a digital review platform.

Qualifications

• Active CPA license, Chartered Accountant designation, or experience as a U.S. tax attorney.
• Strong ability to read and interpret tax statutes and regulations, beyond tax-return preparation.
• Comfort analyzing legal logic, including conditions, thresholds, AND/OR structures, exceptions, and defined terms.
• Precise written communication skills, with criteria clear enough for another reviewer to reach the same conclusion.
• Exceptional attention to detail, particularly for exception clauses and edge cases.
• Comfort delivering structured feedback through a digital review interface.

Preferred Qualifications

• Sales and use tax or broader state and local tax statutory experience.
• Experience across multiple state tax jurisdictions.
• Enrolled Agent designation or relevant federal tax experience for scenario review.
• Experience reviewing or validating AI-generated or technology-driven tax content.
• Background training teams or providing written feedback on legal or tax language.
• Interest in technology and tax compliance.

Work Terms

• Remote contract engagement.

Compensation

• $20 to $30 per hour.
